Watercolor Foundations 1

Understanding watercolor through simple studies

This workshop is part of the Creative Break series –
a relaxed and social morning with watercolor, coffee and breakfast at Cafe Carusel.

What will you learn?

This workshop focuses on understanding how watercolor behaves on paper, so painting becomes less random and more intentional.

No prior experience is required.
We start from the very basics and build step by step,
so even if you’ve never painted with watercolors before, you can follow with confidence.

You will learn:
- how water and pigment interact on paper
- how to recognize and use different paper states (wet, damp, dry)
- how timing influences the outcome of a painting
- how soft transitions and calm surfaces are created
- when watercolor needs guidance and when it needs space

Why this workshop is different

In this Creative Break, the focus is on understanding how watercolor works.

Instead of following steps, you take time to explore the process behind the medium through small, guided studies.

This slows things down on purpose and makes watercolor feel less random.

The goal is not a finished piece, but a foundation you can build on long after the workshop.

What to expect

We begin with a relaxed arrival and breakfast at Cafe Carusel.

The workshop then moves through a series of small, guided studies focusing on water, paper states and timing.

There is time to observe, practice and ask questions along the way

At the end, you may combine what you’ve learned  in a simple coffee ritual study – without pressure to create a finished piece.

Who is this workshop for?

This workshop is for you if:

- you are completely new to watercolor
- you’ve tried watercolor before, but it never really worked
- you want to understand the basics instead of just following steps
- you’re looking for a calm, social Creative Break with substance

This workshop is not focused on advanced techniques or creating a perfect final piece.

Sounds like a good fit?
